Diversity Visa Lottery is operated by the American Goverment to issue 50,000 Permanant Residency (PR) Visas to eligible people from countries which sends less people to The USA. The selection is done by a computer random draw, which will select winners from eligible registered entrants. American Goverment's one and only official web site will accept entries for a period of 60 days each year. The selectd winners will get a chance to apply for the PR visa by paying a non-refundable visa fee.This year's lottery DV 2010 will allow people to enter for the lottery around October 2008. Entries will be accepted via internet, paper entries will not be accepted.
To issue 50,000 visas nearly 100,000 people will be selected and notified.
Those who are not selected will not receive any notification.
Winners will be notified by postal mail between May and July 2009 with further instructions.
Second letter for the interview will be sent 4-6 weeks before the interview date.
Interview for the Visas will start in October 2009 and all the available visas will be issued before 30th September 2010 and the program will be closed.

It further informed that Notifications mailed from the Kentucky Consular Center will provide further instructions, including information on fees connected with immigration to the United States.
Of all the Applicant's of DV 2008 Africa accounts for 41 percent of the total applications received in those two months period. Asia 38%, Europe 19%, the rest 2% came from South America, Central America, and the Caribbean.
Bangladesh was the country with the largest number of applicants, with more than 1.7 million, Second was Nigeria with 684,000, then came Ukraine with 619,000.
DV 2009 winners will be notified by postal mail between May - July 2008 to their given addresses as in the entry application with further instructions and information on visa application and diversity processing fees. Visas will be issued from October 2008 till 30th September 2009 after interview.
